Planned activities

The following capacity building activity was proposed as a joint ICTP/CORDEX for the CAM and SAM domains: “2nd CORDEX Central America, Caribbean and South America Paper-Writing Workshop on
Regional Climate Modeling: Climate Extremes and Cities” at the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences (IAG) of University of São Paulo (USP), Sao Paulo, Brazil during the second
semester 2025. Unfortunately, it was not selected to be funded. However, a virtual version of this workshop is being considered for 2025.

Region 2:
Central America

Planned activities 2025 Central America

Planned activities

- In Central America we determined that the downscaling for the entire domain should be coordinated within the CORDEX framework,
and therefore increasing the domain at a coarser resolution (right now is at 1 km) is the objective.
- POCs from CORDEX CAM-SAM are planning to have an Online Writing Workshop: CORDEX climate modeling in Latin American and the Caribbean.
Two years ago, during the pandemia, we had a similar workshop that was very successful. The objectives would be to advance in
the regional climate modeling in the region and collaboration among early career scientists.
- We are also planning to write an article on Regional climate modeling in Latin America and the Caribbean region in
collaboration between CORDEX-CAM and SAM scientists.
- Luisa Andrade Gómez will run the RegESM in CORDEX-CAM in CICESE.

Planned activities 2025 South Asia

Planned activities

- Access and use of South Asia CORDEX datasets for Early Career Researchers. This will be a regional workshop for early career researchers. The purpose is to introduce the CORDEX data sets and make action plan for future engagement. The workshop will be held in Kathmandu and will be coordinated by SEN Services.
- CORDEX-South Asia Training workshop for stakeholders and early career researchers in 2025 at IITM Pune. Total participant will be 50. Planning to invite 3 CORDEX experts from Asia (rest of India) and 5 sponsored participants from outside India.

Region 7:
East Asia

Planned activities

Participation in 2025 EGU’s regional climate session
Organization of AOGS2025
- session: AS49-Regional Climate Downscaling and CORDEX: Challenges and Prospects
- conveners: Prof. Dong-Hyun Cha, Prof. Koji Dairaku, Prof. Jason Evans, Dr. Jerasorn Santisirisomboon, Prof. Shuyu Wang
- date/location: 27 Jul ~ 1 Aug, 2025/Singapore

Region 8:
Central Asia

Planned Activites 2025 Central Asia

Planned activities

-Workshop in Central Asia including all countries of Central Asia
-Below are some possible options for conducting the workshop:
Scope: Focus on Uzbekistan only
1. Organize the workshop with any university in Uzbekistan or any other central Asian country. The local organizers may provide the venue and meal refreshments during the workshop.
2. A team from the University of Wyoming, USA is also interested; they are working on a proposal for downscaling CMIP6 data using WRF. They already in contact with Prof. Bahtiyor Eshchanov of New Uzbekistan University. So we can organized with them jointly
Scope: Focus on region
3. In Tajikistan, there is an International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation - 2025, organized by the United Nations https://sdgs.un.org/partnerships/international-conference-glaciers-preservation-2025 . We could propose organizing a workshop as a side event during this conference and request them to provide a venue.

- Joint projects and research papers with Universities in Central Asia Domain

Region 9:
Australasia

Planned activities

- CORDEX Australasia workshop at AMOS 2025
- Convective scale simulations for sub-hourly extreme precipitation (possibly endorsed as a CORDEX FPS).

Planned Activities 2025 Polar

Planned activities Polar (Antarctica and Artic)

The annual Polar CORDEX meeting for 2025 will be held at the British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, UK.
Work is also ongoing for an Arctic CORDEX model intercomparison of the atmospheric boundary layer using in-situ observations from MOSAiC. This effort is being led by J. Cassano.
Eleven Arctic CORDEX models have submitted data for this inter-comparison and analysis of the contributed data has been completed.
A manuscript describing the results of the intercomparison will be submitted in the next year.
Further planned work will use novel lake-based snowfall measurements from locations in the Arctic to assess the representation of snowfall output from Arctic CORDEX models. This effort is led by A. Orr.
For Antarctic CORDEX, a model intercomparison is planned using observations from the Japanese Antarctic station at Dome Fuji to assess the models. This effort is led by J. Inoue.
