International Project Office for CORDEX (IPOC)

The International Project Office for CORDEX (IPOC) will be hosted by ESA’s ECSAT facility in the UK, from 1 July 2026.

We thank the WCRP Secretariat together with the IPO for Regional Information for Society (RIfS) who have handled the administration and coordination of CORDEX activities during the transition period.

The CORDEX International Project Office will be led by newly appointed Director, Dr Rachel McInnes, who brings over 15 years of experience in climate science, modelling and climate services, most recently at the UK Met Office. The University of Cape Town, as co-host, will provide science communication and administrative support.

The role of the IPOC is to:

  1. Support the CORDEX Science Advisory Team (CORDEX-SAT) in the planning and implementation of CORDEX priorities;
  2. Ensure appropriate international coordination between the CORDEX regions, institutes and individuals;
  3. Build relationships with the impacts and adaptation, and end user communities to ensure their needs are addressed by CORDEX activities;
  4. Collaborate with relevant WCRP and other international programmes;
  5. To promote capacity development particularly in developing regions and among young scientists;
  6. Actively disseminate and communicate the work of CORDEX.
